"Little girl, little girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night?
In the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines
We'll shiver the whole night through"

Panik blinked opening her eyes slowly. The world around her was brighter than she had remembered it being. She blinked again as she adjusted. Her eyes where scanning the foggy landscape spreading out below her she was facing the edge of the cliff Ticasuq standing proudly in front of her Patukuq the shorter of the sisters far below barely visible in the hazy morning. Noticing how close she was to the shear drop she tried shifting her paw from underneath her but quickly realized this was going to be harder than expected. Everything hurt her joints where sore and she could feel thick drying blood clinging to her fur in various places.

She turned away from the cliff her eyes resting on the body of the beast a few feet away. As the world came into focus she noticed there was not one but two masses in front of her. The gigantic bear from the night before and a much much smaller bear at it's side. Panik's breath caught as she realized the implications of this. Demon bear had a cub. What exactly had happened here?

This realization finally pushed Panik to her feet. She felt the rocks below her shift and she found footing on shaky legs. Her head swam with the sudden movement and she stumbled barley catching herself. The cub looked up at this in a manner much calmer than the dire had expected.

'I thought you where dead too' He commented glancing her way.

Panik was silent she definitely felt like she should be dead. The cubs eyes fell back on his mother as Panik limped over sitting next to him. She gave him a good look he was thin and dirty.

'What happened?' Panik asked hoping the cub would have answers.

There was a long silence she looked at the larger bear in front of her it's mass still made Panik pause even crumpled in a heap it was huge she wondered if the cub beside her would grow to be this size. She looked back to him when he started to speak again.

'I'm not sure feels like it started a long time ago.'

'Couple weeks by the look of you.'

The cub nodded. Panik was surprised by his calmness but she guessed he'd had plenty of time to grieve for his mother over the past few weeks.

'Something changed' The cub continued 'She got meaner she tried to kill me and I had to run. She's been attacking everything... Well was I-I guess was' He bowed his head.

Panik wasn’t sure what to say they sat in silence for a long time. They stayed like that until the sun could be seen shining next to Ticasuq.

'You're a strong cub' Panik told him slowly standing 'You've survived longer than you should have but you're lucks gonna run out eventually. Come with me' She offered 'At least until I can find someone else to take you.'

The cub paused 'you're not going to kill me?' He seemed surprised.

Panik huffed 'Would you prefer I did?' The cub quickly shook his head as Panik stood starting the long painful walk back down the mountain side.

He contemplated her offer a moment weighing his options. They certainly did look grim stay here alone and starve to death or go back with this tokota an animal that was suppose to be his mortal enemy she might just decide he wasn't worth the effort and kill him anyways.

After a long while he nodded to himself making up his mind and with one last look at his mother he followed behind the large dire she'd killed his mother sure but after weeks alone company was company and he didn't want to be alone anymore.
